Light, Water and the Conditions of Form

A research manuscript by Alexander James Hamilton, exploring photography as a physical event through light, water and the material conditions of image formation.

Rather than presenting photography as representation, the manuscript follows four decades of analogue practice in which photographs emerge from constructed physical systems. Studio experiments, remote expeditions, historical references and new theoretical writing are brought together in a single developing publication.

Access provides entry to a Private Reading Room and directly supports completion of the first printed edition, planned for January 2027.

The printed edition will enter production once sufficient readers have joined the Private Reading Room to support its publication. Every participant will receive a €25 credit towards the first printed edition.

The Private Reading Room can be found at AlexanderJamesHamilton.com
