TAXI, by Alexander James

This series was shot in neon soaked Tokyo. Exploring a fascination with the energy of urban taxi’s at night: they glow with a sense of urgency in the business of someone’s journey playing out. The way the landscape of the city interacts with the reflective surfaces of the taxi is often overlooked. Once isolated begins it’s own dialogue of light play, juxtaposing the energy and bustle of city life with the stillness of the individual within it.

'Taxi' series is all shot hand-held on medium format transparencies and as with all Alexander's personal work, they are presented as shot without cropping or post production. He see the process as cathartic rather as a critical one, and his dedication to 'in-camera' purity establishes a predominant focal point for his practice.
