Museum conservation framing photographic works, depicting contemporary butterfly Vanitas artworks

This was one of the first pieces to include a butterfly 'family member' in an artwork, here (Danaus Chrysippus) was actually born & raised in the studio; a process that was a true revelation & privilege for me to explore.

Here I am in 2013 with a 60 x 45 cms choromogenic print that has been framed in deep black cotton velvet in a sight edged American walnut hand waxed frame. These prints all come from original 8 by 10 inch transparency film plates, processed by hand in the studio only moments after exposing the film. The finished size of the piece in the frame is 70 x 85 x 4.5cms hung on wooden battens.

The original artwork can be seen here in 'Vanitas' dating from 2008 to the present day. This piece is untitled - plate 0640 created February 2010. The chormogenic print has been museum mounted to a recycled hand finished aluminium plate. This plate is then given a 3 coat UV varnish that vastly improves the prints lifespan and durability with no visible impedance; this bespoke process has been explored and developed in the studio over the past 30 years to what is now arguably the finest photographic execution available today.

Here are some more studio designed frames which are exclusive to my works, there are many more framing executions available to see in 'Past exhibitions and installations' or email the studio for more information on framing designs..  info (at) Distil Ennui . com
